SF State senior and apparel design and merchandising major Lia Herrera has only lived in the United States for eight years, but is already planning to take her designs national.
“I would like to be the designer of my own clothing company; I will probably take my designs to New York,” Herrera said.
Herrera, originally from Peru, said she was inspired by the body of a computer for her designs for the Fashion Network Association’s annual fashion show at SF State.
“I was inspired by wearable art and how you can use unconventional things to create a garment,” Herrera said.
Herrera’s two designs featured in the fashion show were a paired project that she fully embraced both on and off campus.
“I work at home all the time,” Herrera said. “I guess for me it’s not work; it’s something that I enjoy and just do all the time.” Herrera debuted her designs at the “Nostalgia” Fashion Show Friday, Dec. 4 in Jack Adams Hall.
